Mount Merapi had erupted on 5 pm Tuesday, October 26, 2010 and destroyed the village of Kinahrejo and Turgo, killing at least 33 people, while 18 people still under treatment from severe burn.
The volcano observatory recorded that the eruption start around 5 pm. Six pyroclastic surges were recorded before roaring and explosive sound occurred around 6 pm, and then two more pyroclastic surges occurred until around 7 pm. The volcanic ashes reach as far as 200 km west of the volcano.

Merapi, which stood at 2,968 meters before this year's eruption, is a strato-volcano located in Central Java, Indonesia, about 30 km north of Yogyakarta city which has more than one million inhabitants. This volcano is considered one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. Merapi does not explode vertically, sending hot lava and gas in all directions, when it erupts.
An eruption at Mount Merapi, is always proceeded by the formation of a new lava dome, the consequence of increased volcanic activity producing massive amounts of lava. A lava dome is a pile of magma that comes to the surface and forms a dome-like shape on the peak of the volcano.
