The park holds well over 50 species of mammals such as Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus), Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), Tapir (Tapirus indicus), coyote (Cuon alpinus sumatrensis), gibbon (Hylobates syndactylus) which are endangered or rare. The wildlife has been lived in 125,621.3 hectares of the nature parks. There are also found 406 bird species and different types of reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.
Lowland forest ecosystem consisting of freshwater swamp forests, desert shrub, bushes and and coastal forests were covered Way Kambas National Park in Sumatra. The lowland habitat has a wide variety of trees species fires (Avicennia marina), Sonneratia (Sonneratia sp.), Palm (Nypa fruticans), Melaleuca (Melaleuca leucadendron), salam (Syzygium polyanthum), mire (Glochidion borneensis), Ketapang (Terminalia cattapa), Pinus laut (Casuarina equisetifolia), Pandan (Pandanus sp.), Puspa (Schima wallichii), meranti (Shorea sp.), Kayu minyak(Dipterocarpus gracilis), and Ramin (Gonystylus bancanus).
Elephant Training
The elephant training center was established in 1985. So far, It has managed and trained about 290 elephants. Wild elephants are trained to be elephant attractions, to transport of wood and to plow the farm. At the elephant training center, visitors can be seen the trainers educate and train wild elephants. The elephant attractions, such as elephant ball games, dancing, shaking hands, respect, put a flower, pull the rope, swimming, usually shows regularly at the week-end.
Elephant Patrol
The sensation of riding over an elephant's back for an exploration by using the Conservation Response Unit's patrol elephants. These elephants help to monitor the forest from illegal logging, ranching and any crimes and at the same time could accompany visitors to explore the tropical forest. To ride an elephant, you just pay around Rp. 5,000 per person. The other interesting activities can be done is Elephant Safari with a half to one hour trips. You can also do this at night.

Wildlife Observation
The other object of ecotourism is wildlife observation. This activity can be done by using a car / motorcycle across the rocky dirt road. But it would be nice if we walk to the Way Kanan, so wildlife were not disturbed by vehicle noise. The good time for observing wildlife in their natural habitat is the end of the day between the hours of 16:00 until 19:00 pm and early morning between 05.00 hours until 09.00 am. While taking pleasure in watching around, see the wonderful rain forest vegetation, and various birds such as: Drongo, Hornbill, King Fisher (King Prawn), Pigeon, Malkoha, Sumatran eagle, and if you lucky you will meet wild bear and wild elephant.There are also cultural attractions outside the national parks, Way Kambas Festival or Festival of Krakatau in July in Bandar Lampung.
The best months to visit the Park is July to September each year
How to reach the location
Although remote, you stay comfortable through the smooth asphalt and road markers are available. Here, the routes are:
1. Bandar Lampung-Metro-Way Jepara route, you can use the car about two hours (112 km),
2. Branti-Metro-Way Jepara route, about one hour 30 minutes (100 km),
3. Bakauheni-Long-Sribawono-Way Jepara route, about three hours (170 km),
4. Bakauheni-Labuan Meringgai-Way Kambas route, about two hours.
