Sumatra Island in Indonesia, naturally, is a habitat of Sumatran tigers. There are estimated to exist as few as 400 in the wild. The Sumatran Tiger are declared endangered species. Their existences are threatened from poaching and deforestation.
Scientists have had more challenges if they would have examined the patterns of tiger breeding, because tigers are rare and it's very hard to find their nests.
This week, new footage was captured that provides more information. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) had setup a camera trap. The cubs were captured in footage indicating that these rare tigers.
WWF says the footage is a ‘cause for celebration.’ The group says it’s the first time they’ve recorded evidence of tiger breeding in central Sumatra.
